EXPERIENCE MATTERS

Michael Tuttle
Michael Tuttle

Coach Mike has always been drawn to anything athletic, participating in sports for most of his life. While at Slippery Rock University, Mike wrestled at the Division 1 Level which taught him a lot about the dedication and sacrifice it takes to be a successful athlete. After graduating with a BS in Sports Management, he began coaching wrestlers and knew his future was with helping others reach their athletic and performance goals.

In 2006 he obtained a training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and began his training career at Bally Fitness where it wasn’t long before he started hearing about Crossfit. When he began doing benchmark WODs and following the Crossfit.com mainsite programming, he saw the effectiveness of Crossfit and he started incorporating the Crossfit methodology of “varied, functional movements performed at a high intensity” into his clients’ personal training sessions. These days as a father of three, Mike understands how to balance family life, work, and staying fit. He helps his clients find that balance as well by being a supportive, dedicated coach who gives each person he coaches the tools to help them reach their fitness goals, whatever they may be.

Coach Coles was as much of a non-athlete that one could imagine when she started Crossfit, but quickly became addicted to the barbell and the changes in her body and mental well-being that working out provided. After years of half-hearted attempts at getting fit on her own, it was only through Crossfit that she was able to find something she could stick with.

Wanting to share her newfound passion for fitness with others, she began training people and knew immediately that this was what she wanted to do with her life. In addition to coaching, Coles is the head of all of the behind-the-scenes stuff at CFSH, writing the workout programming and capturing some of the best moments in the gym with her photography. She also serves her one-on-one clients with effective and purposeful individualized programs to help them achieve their fitness goals. Outside of the gym, Coles enjoys running, taking photos of things that aren’t related to Crossfit, and trying to keep up with her two kids.

“What I love most about coaching is the sense of empowerment and confidence that shines through when a member starts to really push through mental and physical barriers. This is so much more than just fitness. It truly changes people’s lives! Once you try it, you will see exactly what I mean.”

Melissa Ondesko
Melissa Ondesko

Melissa has been involved in the fitness industry since graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998 with a degree in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition. As someone who has been active throughout her life, she has been involved in road and trail running, road cycling, adventure racing, and is always looking for a race or competition to get involved in.

Three years ago, she wanted to “see what CrossFit is all about”, and Google led her to CrossFit South Hills’ On Ramp program. After the first WOD, she was hooked, and continued to pursue CrossFit for her own growth in fitness, and embarked on her journey as a Crossfit coach looking to inspire others in the sport. Melissa is a firm believer in core strength and mobility and is happy to bring her extensive experience to classes here at CFSH.

Outside of the gym, Melissa considers herself a homebody, and likes hanging out with her dog, Tee, and husband Bryan, along with tending to her flowers and plants (21 of them!). She enjoys cycling, running, and eating copious amounts of pizza/burgers for replenishment.

“I have worked in fitness for over 20 years, and I have done it all- step aerobics, body sculpt, Spinning, kickboxing, Zumba, boot camp, you name it. CrossFit is the first type of group fitness that has not only changed my physique, but has truly made me stronger, taught me new skills, and introduced me into a community of amazing people who I am proud to associate with. The camaraderie that you form through Crossfit is unlike anything you will experience!”

Drew Frost
Drew Frost

Drew’s Crossfit journey began in 2007 in a friend’s backyard with a homemade pull-up rig and no coaching, drawn to tough workouts he found online that constantly pushed him through what he mentally didn’t know was possible.

A seeming glutton for punishment, Drew’s favorite Crossfit workout is “Murph” and unlike most crossfitters, he likes to work out without music. Outside of the gym, Drew is all about Dad life, chasing his 1-year-old daughter Annabelle around.

“The best thing about coaching is when a member has a breakthrough and everything you’ve been working on with them clicks.”
