CrossFit South Hills has been helping people discover their inner athlete since 2010. So much more than just a fitness program, CFSH is a positive, supportive community that helps ensure each individual’s success.

Michael Tuttle

Mike has always been drawn to anything athletic, participating in sports for most of his life. While at Slippery Rock University, Mike wrestled at the Division 1 Level which taught him a lot about the dedication and sacrifice it takes to be a successful athlete. After graduating with a BS in Sports Management, he began coaching wrestlers and knew his future was with helping others reach their athletic and performance goals.

In 2006, he obtained a training certification through the NASM and began his training career at Bally Fitness where it wasn’t long before he started hearing about CrossFit. When he began doing benchmark WODs and following the CrossFit.com mainsite programming, he saw the effectiveness of CrossFit and he started incorporating it into his clients’ personal training sessions. Working alongside Coles, they began piecing together the dream of CrossFit South Hills and never looked back.

These days as a father of three, Mike understands how to balance family life, work, and staying fit. When he isn’t at the gym he enjoys biking, spending time with his family, and catching up on good Netflix shows.

Nicole Voelzke

Not all Crossfitters are natural born athletes. Coach Coles describes her pre-Crossfit self as “patently non-athletic”, struggling for much of her life to get active. After years of failed attempts at working out on her own, she discovered CrossFit and quickly became addicted to the barbell and the positive changes in her body and mental well-being that working out provided. Over 12 years later, she still loves the workouts, always looking for new ways to challenge herself and others.

For Coles, coaching has allowed her to integrate her college studies in philosophy and psychology with physical wellness, creating a unique approach to fitness and nutrition that strengthens both the body and the mind. She loves helping people explore their potential, and encourages a sense of mental strength and fortitude within the CFSH community that carries over well beyond the four walls of the gym. Outside of the gym, Coles enjoys long peaceful scrolls through her Instagram feed, embracing the chaos of Mom Life, and doing freelance portrait photography.

Holly Smith

Holly was one of the CFSH original members, beginning her CrossFit journey in 2010. Initially finding working out intimidating, she quickly fell in love with the community here at the gym and the fact that every single person, regardless of age, experience level, or background can learn and make progress year after year. While Holly didn’t participate in sports or any sort of fitness activities before Crossfit, she worked her way to true competitor status as a Regional Qualifier athlete in the 40-44 age group in 2015. As a coach, Holly is most passionate about Olympic weightlifting and finds helping others most rewarding–especially when they hit a goal or PR a new lift. When not in the gym, she loves hanging out with her kids (2 kids and 2 pups), binge-watching Netflix, and testing out new healthy recipes.

Heather McNamara

Growing up, Heather was a competitive gymnast and all-star cheerleader who also coached gymnastics, cheer, and tumbling after college. After gaining a lot of weight with her first pregnancy, she joined the gym in 2014 wanting to make a serious lifestyle change. Having a gymnastics background, the bodyweight movements came naturally to her, however, she’d never touched a barbell in her life. She found that the programming at CFSH allowed her to step out of her comfort zone, push her limits, and improve her strengths. While originally joining to lose weight, CFSH changed her life in so many other ways! Crossfitting through 3 (and working through #4!) pregnancies, Heather has found that her fitness has played a huge role in her labors, deliveries, and recovery periods. For Heather, Crossfit has been her place to get away and do something for herself, which makes her a better mother and wife. Beyond that, it’s the tight knit CFSH community that has come to mean so much to her, offering a bedrock of support and solace to her family when they lost their infant son in 2017. As a coach, Heather loves helping others succeed and getting to know people she doesn’t usually get to see in class. Outside of the gym, she is “mom”–which is about all she has time for with 3 kids under age 6!
