“I’ve been active and working out for years and even taught some fitness classes. I was always intrigued by CrossFit but never took the courage to start. It seemed a little scary throwing all these heavy weights around. What if I failed? What if I couldn’t do it? The only thing I regret was not starting sooner!! “I had been working out in another Crossfit gym for about a year before i moved to the South Hills and joined CFSH. I immediately felt welcome in my new environment and was so impressed with the coaching and the athletes in the gym. I loved Crossfit and I wanted to get better at it to challenge my body in a way I hadn’t in the past, so I began working one-on-one with Coles. I am not going to lie, I was nervous! Was I going to be good enough? Was I going to embarrass myself? I could no longer hide my weaknesses in the gym–I now had to face them head on and in front of a coach. Coles made me feel comfortable right away. She also challenged me in ways I didn’t know I could be. She made me get uncomfortable (really uncomfortable!), but she encouraged me the whole time. After a month, I felt much more confident in my athletic abilities. My body was transforming, and by the end of 3 months of one-on-ones, I added 20lbs to each of my lifts and got my first muscle up! I couldn’t believe it! I was finally RX’ing some workouts and feeling great in the gym instead of feeling timid.
Then I found out that my husband and I were expecting! I was able to stay on top of my workouts throughout my entire pregnancy and was still able to do strict pull ups at 31 weeks pregnant, all because of the foundational strength that went into my time working with Coles. She was there for me post-partum as well, easing me back into my workouts safely, helping me get back to my pre-pregnancy self. One-on-One training has been one of the best investments I have ever made in myself!”

“I thought I’d just enjoy the varied workouts and was happy it was close to my home and work. Instead, I found myself excited to find the same group of people to work out with every day. You find yourself looking over your shoulder to see if the guy who joined around the same time as you is going to pass you on the run, and you push yourself harder. Years ago, I would wander around a gym wondering what to do next for “arm day.” Now I look forward to seeing the next day’s creative and structured workout. I got addicted to seeing consistent progress, old pains from overhead or front rack positions disappearing and being replaced with heavier weights with improved form. After awhile, you find yourself sticking around to do something like “Death by Pull Ups” with newfound friends when just three months ago you were dying to get your first pull up. I have fun here, and it’s an important part of my day now. Whether you want to call it Crossfit, or just bettering your fitness with friends, CFSH is a great place to do it!”
